ABOUT PARTY HAT GALLERY 2017-2020
Party Hat began in 2017 as a collaborative art space and gallery curated by artist/designer Mary Anne Carter and producer/enabler Adj McColl. As co-curators, the two hosted a monthly art series in conjunction with Pioneer Square's First Thursday Art Walk. The series prioritized art by underrepresented and emerging artists and encouraged work that deviated from the traditional gallery experience. For each show, Party Hat collaborated with the artist to make a limited edition piece of merchandise intended to inspire art collection at all income levels.
In addition to a gallery, Party Hat operated as a full service screen printing shop that worked with the community to assist in the realization and distribution of their ideas through shirts, posters, totes, literature, enamel pins, and more.
Party Hat Gallery closed in 2020 due to Covid-19, but lives on in a new iteration. We remain in the same space in Pioneer Square and our mission remains consistent to promote underrepresented artists, encourage art collection at all income levels, and cultivate lively, experiential art events.
ABOUT PARTY HAT studio 2021-present
Merging our history of curatorial work, screen printing, and experimental events, Party Hat now specializes in producing site specific art activations and live screen printing events. Our physical space serves as the art studios of Mary Anne Carter and artist Colleen Louise Barry of Mount Analogue. Together, they host a monthly art walk that features a small body of work from a featured artist and a behind the scenes look at their works in progress.
